Juan Pablo Ortega is a Salvadoran filmmaker whose work centres on directing, screenwriting, and film editing. Working primarily within independent cinema, Ortega has developed a diverse filmography spanning comedy, horror, romance, drama, western, action, satire, and experimental filmmaking. Ortega began developing his filmmaking style through short-form projects such as Study Period. (2024), a comedic montage exercise, and Rhapsody: Dissonance Prelude (2024), an early version of his music-driven drama Dissonance. His 2024 work also includes Spooky Cellar, a horror comedy, and Reminiscing, a romance drama. In 2024 and 2025, Ortega developed the Juan Two Three trilogy, a series of films exploring different genres and styles. The trilogy consists of Spooky Cellar (Juan Two Three Part 1), Tralalero Tralala RNG at 3 AM (Juan Two Three Part 2), and A Gun Named Grief (Juan Two Three Part 3). Beginning as horror comedies, the trilogy gradually shifts toward a darker and more dramatic style, culminating in the arthouse drama A Gun Named Grief. In 2025, Ortega also directed Cowboys from Hell, a western action film, and Carulus Carulus, a horror satire. His later work includes Dissonance (2026), a music-driven drama, and Nothing Without the Gun (2026), a drama thriller exploring violence, power, and human behaviour. As a filmmaker, Ortega primarily works as a director, writer, and editor, often taking on multiple creative roles within his productions. His filmography reflects an interest in strong visual identities, unconventional storytelling, stylized editing, music, and genre filmmaking.
